From the mid 1930s until the present Brisbane City Council made regular aerial images of the city, including of Norman Creek and its catchment. Comparing the 1946 photographs to contemporary Google Earth imagery reveals much about the history of the creek and its catchment in the past seventy years. Angus Veitch, UQ doctoral candidate & digital historian and Trish FitzSimons, a Griffith Film School academic, filmmaker & historian see what can be deduced from some sample images. This work was produced with a grant from the Brisbane City Council's Community History Grant.
James Warner, government surveyor, mapped Norman Creek and its surrounding land in 1839. Visually comparing this map with Google Earth reveals surprising changes, and continuities. Angus Veitch, UQ doctoral candidate & digital historian and Trish FitzSimons, a Griffith Film School academic, filmmaker & historian explore some of the correspondences. This work was produced with a grant from the Brisbane City Council's Community History Grant.
In 2012, with the goal of presenting a vision for Norman Creek, N4C developed strategic plans for a number of sites in our catchment, which were drawn up by then-N4C president and landscape architect Ashley Nicholson.
Documentary film maker and social historian Trish FitzSimons' first two documentaries about Norman Creek were titled Time and Tide and were produced using support from the Lord Mayor's 'Helen Taylor bequest for Local History'.
